Turnaround provides a service to homeless or inadequately housed people of Newham. We offer safe space where our service users can develop a sense of self worth. We provide positive and realistic professional support in partnership with other agencies so that people can maintain and sustain a more settled lifestyle.
Turnaround @ Aram House
Turnaround has provided nightshelter accommodation
since November 1992, when seven Christian - based Newham churches
pulled together to meet the needs of local homeless people by providing
a meal, a bed and a warm, safe environment for 30 people each night
in which to escape the cold winter months. We were the first London
shelter to begin this model and since that time we have helped church
based groups in seven other London boroughs and towns to set up
their own shelter using the same model. The project has always been
dependent on the tremendous support of the churches and over 50
volunteers who bring their gifts and goodwill to work with Turnaround
staff.
Since July 2005 with the opportunity of a short life tenancy on Aram House, Turnaround has been able to offer accommodation through the year to single homeless people of Newham.
By offering this basic need of food and a bed for the night Turnaround provides some stability in often chaotic lives. People are then encouraged to engage with workers in the drawing up of a support plan that will aim towards resettlement into accommodation and mainstream society.
