Provides - Advocacy, Advice, Information, and Support through a comprehensive casework service on issues affecting Carers. The Carers Rights Service is also supported by trained volunteers and social work students on work placements. 

Help and assistance can be received by:

  • Telephone support: An initial first contact point for advice, information and support.
  • Home visits: We can arrange for a worker to visit you in your home if you are disabled or cannot leave the person you care for. 
  • Office Visits: You can arrange to meet at our offices which have disability access.
  • Phone and booking system for working Carers and students: You can call us and book an appointment outside of opening hours.
  • Information and advice on the entitlement of Carer related Welfare benefits: Assistance completing Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Attendance Allowance (AA) representation at DLA appeals, tribunals (only if the form has been completed by us), Carers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Income Support, Blue Badge, Family fund etc. We also write letters of support to housing, health professionals, provide information on direct payments and individual budgets etc.
  • Advocacy: Support at Care Plan meetings, Assessments, Reviews and Benefit Appeals and Tribunals.
  • Referral and Signposting: Accessing Social Care Services, including a Carers Assessment and Respite as well as links with other local organisations who offer support to Carers and their families
  • Holistic family working: taking the whole family into account including their individual and collective needs. We aim to work cooperatively carry out working practices to increase communication and collaboration with other agencies and develop strong working links across departments and agencies.
  • Health and Information events: Invitations to Forums, Information and health/Leisure events, including Carers week and Carers' Rights Day. 
  • Access to Carers Support Groups: We can put you in touch with support groups for Carers and their families some of which are specific to health conditions.
  • Identification of Carers not known to services: We provide outreach sessions once a month throughout the borough and provide advice on services and support available for carers.
