Carers Health Empowerment "Better Health for Carers can develop a programme which will empower carers to become more resilient through professional training, workshops and courses. This will practically and holistically support and mentor other carers, within a friendly and social environment." The above was the conclusion reached after an independent evaluation of 10 years funding by the Big Lottery of a Carers Health Support Service in 2017. Based on this and successful application, The Renewal Programme have been awarded funding for another three years until 2021. This is for a sustainability project delivering a Carer's Health Empowerment project. In the first year of the project, carers will be empowered, through the following workshops, within their caring role: Advocacy for self and others Carers rights and entitlements Reviews and tribunals Safeguarding awareness Understanding the system Condition awareness and management Behaviour management Dementia awareness Managing stress Diabetes Moving, lifting and handling Medicine management Health and well-being Aromatherapy Natural remedies Making natural beauty products Winter warmers Eating for health Creative arts In the second year of the project, ten carer leads will be trained to co-deliver the above to other carers. Training will be certified or accredited: Carers and Advocacy Adult Carers Right Rights of Disabled Children and Young People Dispute Resolution Welfare Benefits Advocacy Introduction to Health and Well-Being The Power of Positive Thinking Mindfulness Meditation for Daily Living Fundamentals of Peer Counselling Building your Resilience In the third year, ten carer leads will directly deliver the programme to carers.
