Ukrainian Community Connector Programme
We are delivering a multi-pronged initiative to identify and holistically support Ukrainian refugees to integrate into the Newham community.
We have newly recruited a Project Manager and 2 Community Connectors who speak fluent Russian and Ukrainian. They conduct extensive outreach in the borough, and act as intermediaries between individual clients, grassroot organisations and statutory bodies, supporting Ukrainian refugees to access available social support. They also engage with consortium partners and will manage a multilingual free telephone helpline (including casework and immigration support) and email inbox.
We provide immigration support, such as help with biometric cards for clients, whose applications for entry to the UK have been successful. We also deliver weekly ESOL classes as part of our Ofsted registered adult education service. ESOL classes will are developed in line with participants needs, from absolute beginners up to Level 2, equipping clients with language skills to live independently. Employment support sessions are delivered by experienced staff and supported by corporate partners.
Our Community Connectors are supported by volunteers to manage weekly outreach stalls in commercial areas of Newham with high foot traffic. They also lead a weekly ‘One Stop Shop’ event which is delivered at 395 High Street North and jointly with LBN at Stratford Library.
