Fred

Fred is a resident of our Supported Housing project who was introduced to us by SHP after his key worker there got him an interview. Fred first became homeless four years ago and has really turned his life around.

Around about four years ago, my support network disappeared; I lost the majority of my family over three years and I ended up homeless. I had a key worker at the Single Homeless Project, a man named Paul, who got me an interview with the Renewal Programme, which is when I got my flat.

I met Paul at Change Grow Live in Beckton. I used to drink, but now I feel safe and content I don’t feel the need to. There aren’t many organisations like SHP, CGL and the Renewal Programme who spend time working with you to help.

Since coming to the Renewal Programme, I’ve built up strong connections with my local church, where I go three times a week. I’ve also got to know the staff, my key worker is really helpful; he’s a sweet and soothing man, very calm. He listens to me and gives me an opportunity to offload.

If there’s something I’m not sure about, I know I can talk to people here. The support network I’ve built up here means everything o me, it makes me happy and safe.

I know I can’t stay here forever and because I’ve received so much support from the team here, my aim is to live independently. I know what I have to do now to get to that point. The team here at the Renewal Programme provide opportunities for people to feel safe.

Fred

Fred is one of the fifty residents we support through our Supported Housing project, which runs in two buildings located in the borough. The project is funded by the London Borough of Newham and has been running in various capacities since 1971.
