Newham Renewal Programme Ltd, also known as The Renewal Programme, is a registered charity based in Newham. Working with the community, the local council and businesses and other local charities, we transform and empower individuals for a stronger borough.
Founded in 1971 by Reverends Clifford Hill, Ted Finch and Rowland Joiner, their shared aim was to inspire marginalised people and communities to sustain themselves independently in the future, an aim which has remained at the heart of the charity ever since.
For 50+ years, we have continued to support those, in Newham, who are facing multiple challenges; whether they’re a carer who needs wellbeing support, a migrant or refugee without access to public funds, an individual suffering with homelessness or experiencing poverty, a young person without direct access to learning pathways or an elderly person unable to communicate in English. With our support, they can access the services they need in order to overcome those challenges.
How we can help
Our Supported Housing project is an initiative developed in conjunction with the London Borough of Newham and One-Housing Group to provide accommodation and life skills support for single homeless people over the age of 18.
Everyone that this project supports has experienced rough sleeping, but this can often also be alongside employment issues, mental health issues, domestic abuse, addiction, mild learning disabilities and people coming out of the criminal justice or care system.
We currently have two Supported Housing buildings, one for adults aged 18-25 and the other for adults 25 and over. Both buildings are based in Newham.
The project is aimed at individuals who may find a large education situation daunting or overwhelming; the Renewal Programme’s primary aim is to encourage and enable people to achieve recognised qualifications and to progress to further/higher education and employment. Our teachers support people to overcome these barriers, empowering them to enter further vocational training and to find employment. Individuals often want to just be able to support their families, such as helping their children with homework or to be able to engage with UK banking and legal services.
Our work helps to prepare them for life in today’s world, diverts them from crime and anti-social behaviour and is great fun. Through a wide range of activities such as sports, discussion, cooking and growing food, fashion, and IT, our young people learn about respect for themselves and others, self-sufficiency and how to achieve their ambitions.
The Renewal Programme provides advice and support to the most vulnerable residents of Newham through person-centred and holistic practical assistance, advocacy, and community action projects.
Our aim is to transform and empower those within the borough by forming community cohesion and providing a support base for residents living in one of London’s boroughs affected most by poverty and inequality.
We are a multi-service charity using a holistic, personal approach to provide Newham residents with the tools and direction to address an array of trials & tribulations.
Using advocacy, education, temporary accommodation, positive community activities, experience and a breadth of knowledge & expertise enables us to draw on internal resources to provide individuals with the most tailored support possible.
