We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news that Neetu Kumar, a beloved volunteer and cherished member of our community, passed away on Friday 24th of June 2025.
Neetu was truly a force to be reckoned with. Her warmth, fierce passion, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Neetu was never shy of a hug and always quick to offer a smile—she brought joy into every room and was a friend to all.
Neetu first joined the Renewal Programme through our Food Bank Service and was later referred to our Stay Warm in Newham project, a project that aims to help Newham residents tackle rising fuel costs. She soon participated in every community event we held, from dancing outside for our Diwali event, to joining cooking sessions and arts and well-being activities. But what made Neetu truly remarkable was her decision to turn her own hardship into a force for good. In May 2024 she trained to become an Energy Champion for our Stay Warm in Newham Project; a powerful advocate for vulnerable residents to learn and equip themselves to deal with rising energy bills head on. She shared her story courageously, including being featured in a Channel 4 News segment, to help raise awareness and ensure others knew help was available.
Neetu was more than a participant in our programmes—she was a beacon of hope, resilience, and kindness. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the community she helped strengthen. The Renewal Programme is indebted to Neetu for love and energy she so generously poured into her community, and will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.
She will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Neetu.
