The Renewal Programme’s 2018 Harvest Festival
The 17th October was a big date for The Renewal Programme. It marked the day of our third Harvest Festival celebration, it saw our community in Newham come together for a wonderful celebration of sharing and caring.
We kicked off the morning with a warm welcoming speech from the Chief Executive Officer of The Renewal Programme, Ruth Bravery. She opened the morning by thanking everyone for coming out and for generously donating food & nappies towards our food bank for destitute refugees & migrant run by The Refugee & Migrant Project.
‘On behalf of everyone at The Renewal Programme, I would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made our Harvest Festival such a wonderful celebration of sharing and caring for each other in our community.’
We then welcomed Naome Nansamba and Guitarist Dom Betumo, both who are learners in our organisation. Naome shared her experiences with our organisation. Her speech was heart warming and inspirational. She could not speak a word of English when she joined us but now found herself speaking English publicly in front of an audience. It shows how far hard work and dedication can get you. We then had entertainment from Dom Betumo, Dom is also a learner of ours who played music for us on his guitar. What he did was bold, courageous and simply excellent. To perform in front of people is never an easy task. We would like to thank Dom for his efforts and for sharing his music with us.
To close out the Festival we had our returning Raffle contest and Cake Contest. We had some wonderful prizes on offer for the raffle, a Chocolate and Biscuit Hamper, a Food Hamper, a Swarovski women’s necklace, a children’s toy hamper and two Carlo Bruno Silk Cufflinks, Tie and Hanky Red and Pink. We could like to congratulate all the winners and thank you for your participation.
For our cake contest we gave certificates to our winners. We could like to congratulate all those who won and thank you for your participation.
This year’s Harvest was great fun and truly did bring the community together. We got to see different sides of our community from children to learners and see their talents and their journey. We would like to thank everyone involved and hope to see you all next year!
