PhD students from University College of London undertake an evaluation of ESOL for ladies over 60 funded by the City Bridge Trust
The evaluation found:
- Emphasised the benefits of enabling older women to learn English
- Fully endorsed the teaching methodology, classroom setting
- Highlighted the innovative involvement of volunteers to support teaching and as peer mentors
Surprising findings were:
- High levels of health experienced by the group of learners & impact on their lives
- The Programme has significantly improved not only the English ability but their all-around health and well-being and willingness to engage in social & community achievements
Director Louise Vera said:
“Many of the women have signed up for the free keep classes funded by Sport England and provided by The Renewal Programme. The women would previously not have had the English ability or confidence to participate in an exercise class like this. It’s a life changing experience for the ladies in the group.”
