About the Renewal Programme
The Renewal Programme is a well-established and respected local charity based in the London Borough of Newham. We support those who are facing multiple challenges – they might be a carer, migrant or refugee without access to public funds, suffering with homelessness, experiencing poverty, or unable to communicate in English. We empower people to reach their full potential through offering advocacy, education, temporary accommodation and a wide range of positive activities. We support over 3000 people a year and have been working with Newham communities for over 50 years.
About the role
This role is critical in helping us to realise our vision of creating a vibrant, welcoming, supportive and engaging environment for everyone who walks into our community hub space. You will actively staff our expanding hub, welcoming participants, processing drop-ins and directing people to advice appointments. Following appropriate consultation, you will also help us to improve and expand our hub provision, currently comprising of a community café, women’s coffee mornings, foodbank, digital inclusion support and access to immigration advice services.
You will help us to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all groups, but particularly for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers, helping them to better access public services, entitlements, support and employment. Ideally you will have an OICS qualification at level 1 (or willingness to work towards) as you will need to provide basic immigration advice and signposting into our legal services.
You will support a team of committed volunteers and sessional staff and will ensure that the ethos and values of the charity (dignity, inclusion, collaboration and empowerment) are maintained through the work of the community hub.
