Chair of Trustees Vacancy:
New Chair of Trustees sought for Newham Community Renewal Programme.

Can you help us create vibrant and integrated Newham communities?
We are looking for a new Chairperson to work with our dedicated board of Trustees, skilled staff team and fantastic volunteers, to help lead our charity into an exciting future. Founded over 50 years ago, the Renewal Programme works with over 3,000 people each year, providing holistic support to those facing complex and multiple disadvantages in one of London’s poorest and most diverse boroughs. We support residents who experience a combination of acute poverty, poor mental health, food insecurity, have no access to public funds, are homeless, or are unable to communicate in English.
This is an exciting time to join the charity as we are on a trajectory of growth and development and are ably supported by a committed and diverse trustee board with a range of relevant skills. Newham was among the hardest hit areas by the covid-19 pandemic, yet we rose to the challenge, increasing services and supporting our communities more than ever before. We are on a strong financial footing and in the first year of our ambitious “Double down, Rise up” 3 year strategy which sets out our vision to help drive growth and impact.
We are looking for an individual who is enthused by our mission, aligned with our values, and motivated by the prospect of continuing to help us create vibrant and integrated Newham Communities. You will also be a strategic thinker who is adept at Chairing and has a good understanding of issues relating to poverty and disadvantage in highly diverse communities. Our ideal chair would be someone who is familiar with the unique challenges and strengths of our vibrant borough, and perhaps lives in, or in the vicinity of Newham.
The role of Chair is voluntary with expenses paid. The time commitment required will vary but is expected to be approximately 2 days per month, much of which can be scheduled at the Chair’s discretion. Trustees’ meetings are every other month and we run hybrid meetings to maximise flexibility. Trustees also meet through different committees looking at finance, property and digital transformation among other topics.
