The Renewal Programme has officially launched its RenewALL Hub, a new and expanded free community hub in Newham, thanks to over £600,000 in funding over four years from The National Lottery Community Fund.
Co-created with local residents, the RenewALL Hub brings together a wide range of services focused on improving health and wellbeing, building skills and independence, and strengthening community connections. Central to the Hub is a commitment to early intervention, supporting residents to access preventative support sooner and offering choice and control so people can make better informed decisions about their long-term health and wellbeing. By taking this proactive, community-led approach, the RenewALL Hub aims to improve outcomes for individuals while also helping to reduce pressure on public health services over time.
The RenewALL Hub was officially launched at a recent event attended by residents, partners and local leaders. The event opened with an introduction from Peter Laing, CEO of the Renewal Programme, who outlined the vision for the Hub and its role in addressing long-term systemic challenges in Newham. Guests also heard from Councillor Susan Masters and Councillor Lakmini Shah, who highlighted the importance of accessible, preventative and community-led services.
Through the RenewALL Hub, the Renewal Programme will deliver a broad programme of free activities and support, including:
- The Food Collective, offering a range of sustainable food support services that help reduce waste and combat food insecurity
- The Barista Project, supporting young adults at risk of homelessness to gain skills and employment experience, delivered in partnership with Kahaila Ltd and Three Cords Coffee
- Free and accessible exercise classes, including low-impact and women’s only classes.
- Health and wellbeing initiatives, including cancer screening awareness sessions, health checks and health education workshops
- Community events and activities to reduce isolation and strengthen local connections
Over the lifetime of the project, the RenewALL Hub aims to deliver more than 800 hours of health and wellbeing activity each year, engage nearly 600 people annually, and support over 20,000 attendances, while also creating volunteering opportunities and pathways into employment.
Peter Laing, CEO of the Renewal Programme, said:
“We believe strongly that real progress is created alongside communities, not delivered to them. Our exciting new RenewALL Hub project is rooted in co-production and prevention, strengthening health, wellbeing and connection across Newham.”
As the RenewALL Hub becomes fully operational, the Renewal Programme is encouraging local partners, charities, community groups and organisations to help spread the word by signposting residents, sharing information and exploring opportunities to collaborate.
The organisation also officially introduced the RenewALL Hub team at the launch: Shashi Ioannides, Transformation Hub Manager; Rob McLean, Food Sustainability Coordinator; and Somia El Hariry and Jason Wilson, Hub Coordinators.
The RenewALL Hub is now open and welcoming residents from across Newham.
